Lovely Lowestoft – Your Next Filming Location?

24-02-2026

Lowestoft is one of our most popular destinations in the county for film and TV. It’s unique sandy beach is the main draw but the train station, Ness Point and the town itself are all popular for filming.

Yesterday the 2019 film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis was set in Lowestoft and the main school location for Lily Jame’s school teacher character Ellie was Ormiston Denes Academy.

Perhaps the inspiration from the film stemmed from the very famous band The Darkness who hark from Lowestoft, they filmed their documentary in the town back in 2021 and then taking inspiration from them, fan of the band Ed Sheeran, filmed a promo on Lowestoft’s North Beach.

In 2021 Burberry filmed a promo there which used the promenade and beach as well as some clever CGI to create a ‘Singing in the Rain’ inspired advert.

Local filmmaker Mark Finbow made ‘Time Travelling with Myself’ in Lowestoft, he wrote and starred in the film and you can see the trailer here.

It’s no surprise that the beach is such a focal point for filming, and the mystique of the most easterly point in the county is doubtless a draw.

There is so much more to Lowestoft than just the beach.  Last year Si King featured Lowestoft train station in ‘Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations’. The station was built in 1847 and still has many original features.  As well as this gem the old town could easily double for a period high street and is easily controllable for filming and with large carparks nearby would service a production of any size.

We’re on hand to show producers and location managers all the town has to offer, just get in touch!
