Last week team Screen Suffolk headed to a location we have been trying to get our hands on for ages. The historic Broomhill Lido.
This 1930’s lovely is set on a residential street in central Ipswich, alongside Broomhill Park, and first opened it’s doors on 30 April 1938 and stopped welcoming guests in the autumn of 2002. Since it’s closure 17 years ago the Lido has remained frozen in time.
The lido is now set for development with a grand opening planned in 2020. In the meantime we’re delighted to be able to offer it as a filming location. The site is in a state of disrepair but this only increases the atmosphere of the place. As we walked around we saw the old changing rooms, their original doors still painted in pink and blue.
My favourtite place was the period locker room – each visitor had to place their belongings in a metal basket, all of which remain in situ to this day.
So many of the original features remain and the location seems frozen in time – it would be perfect for an eerie chase scene or hideout. Please do get in touch with us if you would like any more information or if you would like your production to film here. In the meantime, check out the full listing here.
